Night Guards

Many people grind or clench their teeth, often without even realising it. While occasional teeth grinding may be harmless, for some individuals, it can lead to more serious issues—this condition is known as bruxism. Bruxism refers to the excessive grinding or clenching of teeth, typically occurring outside of normal chewing activities.

Why Choose Us

If left untreated, bruxism can result in worn-down teeth, increased tooth sensitivity, pain, headaches, jaw discomfort, and even cracked teeth. The effects can be both physically painful and damaging to your oral health.

If you frequently wake up with headaches, jaw stiffness, or discomfort in your teeth, it may be worth consulting your dentist to assess whether bruxism could be the culprit. During your consultation, your dentist will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and jaw joint, as well as review your dental and medical history. We’ll also consider other potential contributing factors, such as stress or physical health conditions, that may be affecting your oral well-being.

For many patients, a custom-made nightguard is an effective solution. Crafted from hard thermo-acrylic material, a nightguard fits comfortably over your teeth, typically on the upper arch, and helps to prevent the damage caused by grinding while you sleep.

If you think bruxism might be affecting you, don’t wait to seek treatment. A simple consultation could help you prevent further damage and improve your quality of life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need regular check-up

Regular dental check-ups are the key to avoiding unexpected problems and costly surprises. Catching an issue early gives you the freedom to explore the best treatment options, while emergencies often prioritise pain relief over long term solutions. By addressing concerns early, treatments are more effective, less time-consuming, and easier on your wallet - keeping your smile healthy and stress-free.

I clean my teeth at home, why do I need a professional clean?

Even if you brush and floss daily, it’s vital for your overall health to have a professional clean every six months. Some people may need more frequent visits, especially if they are managing periodontal disease. When plaque remains on your teeth, it combines with saliva to harden into tartar or calculus. If left untreated, this can lead to bleeding gums, bad breath, a receding gum line, and eventually tooth mobility. Regular cleans and polishes not only give you a bright smile but also help prevent decay, gum disease, and bad breath.

Is fluoride effective?

Yes, fluoride is essential for strengthening teeth and has been clinically proven to dramatically reduce decay rates. It works by remineralising weakened enamel, reversing early signs of decay, and reducing tooth sensitivity. While fluoride toothpaste is effective for daily use, professionally applied fluoride treatments are far more concentrated and provide superior protection. Our therapists and hygienists tailor fluoride treatments to your specific needs, ensuring your teeth stay healthier, stronger, and more resistant to future decay.

Why do I need x-rays?

Dental x-rays are essential for detecting issues that aren’t visible to the naked eye, helping to protect your oral health.

What are bitewing x-rays?

Taken on the sides of your mouth every two years, bitewing x-rays detect early decay between teeth, allowing for early treatment and often preventing the need for fillings.

How are OPG x-rays different?

An OPG x-ray provides a panoramic view of your teeth, jawbone, joints, and sinuses, ideal for monitoring wisdom teeth and other areas not visible with smaller x-rays. These are recommended every three years.

Regular x-rays ensure early detection and effective prevention for a healthier smile.

Are dental x-rays safe?

Our dental x-rays use an exceptionally low radiation dose while delivering high-resolution images for accurate diagnosis. To put it into perpective, the radiation from one of our x-rays is equivalent to the natural dose you'd receive from eating about 20 bananas.

Despite the minimal exposure, your safety is our top priority. We utilise aiming devices to ensure precision and provide lead aprons when necessary for added protection, reflecting our commitment to delivering safe and effective care.
